Beef Finland goes New York

(Post)Material Design Case Study

Beef Finland is invited by Q&A and Finnish Cultural Institute in New York to the New York Design Week 2012, more specifically, The New Finnish Design CITY lounge at the Wanted Design fair. The official text goes:

The CITY lounge acts as a stage for a discussion series between Finnish and American design experts to study the phenomenon of (post)materiality in 21st century design. Contemporary notion of design not only includes physical objects and environments, but also digital interfaces, services and organizational processes.

PART I: brief May 19 2012, Saturday 10 – 11.30 am

Like it or not, we designers embark on a project with a brief whether that means a piece of paper with dense information or a short phone call or a lengthy presentation. What does a brief look like for societal problems at the face of material scarcity, the growing demand for sustainability, and the unbearable logic of constant economic growth?

PART II: craft & portfolio May 20 2012, Sunday 10 – 11.30 am

Traditional design practices had craftsmanship at its heart, and portfolio has become indispensable tool for designers to communicate what’s beeb being done and proceed with new projects. What do craft and portfolio entail for societal problems at the face of material scarcity, the growing demand for sustainability, and the unbearable logic of constant economic growth?

Admission

Free with RSVP or with an appropriate business card. General admission $ 25. RSVP at www.design-city.net/RSVP by May 16, 2012. Admission includes a light lunch around noon.
